Bespoke Furnaces

FHD offers a superb standard range of Electric Resistance Furnaces with and without controlled Atmospheres for oxidising, reducing, carburising and many other applications.

The success of FHD lies with our unique design approach which allows complete customisation of our standard range to include choice of computerised control system, instrumentation and throughput method – creating a ‘tailor-made’ unit without the premium price tag.

Continuous Operation

Whilst the mesh belt conveyor furnace is the main type under this section it also applies to rotary hearth and muffle furnaces. This range can be made suitable for any atmosphere conditions but where the conveyance system relies upon a mesh belt or metallic muffle the temperature is limited to a maximum of 1200°C.

With the rotary hearth and muffle furnaces using refractory linings or muffles the temperature capability can be increased to 1850°C, but the type of atmosphere is dependent upon its compatibility with the element material used.

Intermittent / Continuous Operation

Pusher furnaces are the principle type covered in this section, though also including the walking beam furnace which, while generally considered intermittent in its operation cycle, can also be supplied for continuous movement.

The types and sizes manufactured by FHD in this range are extensive and permit temperature capabilities of up to 1850°C under certain process and atmosphere conditions.

All atmosphere conditions can be catered for, but in the case of the open hearth furnace the type of heating elements used is dependent on its compatibility with the atmosphere, or the reverse.

Where stringent control of the atmosphere conditions is required, virtually all the furnaces depicted can be fitted with entry and/or exit lock systems that can be vacuum or inert gas purged.

Partial or fully automatic programmable microprocessor controlled boat feed and take off systems can be supplied, and can be built ‘tailor-made’ to specific layouts, with conveyors orientated to suit the individual requirements of the customer.

PC/SCADA management systems are available for gas and/or temperature monitoring or control.

Batch Operation

The range of batch furnaces produced have been designed for the many heat processes for which continuous methods of production are not practical or are un-economic.

The types vary from the general purpose box furnace used for many heat treatments up to 1000°C to the high temperature applications at 1850°C involving sintering and metallizing ceramics.

Batch operations are often chosen due to the necessity to maintain strict control over the furnace atmosphere conditions, and the wide experience of FHD in this field is reflected in the designs offered. Flexibility is another keynote, whereby from the many sizes and types shown, the equipment can be supplied as a complete standard, but ‘tailor-made’ to suit the specific requirements of the customer and their process.
